Playing… is a web music video series in which well-known pieces of music are covered in experimental, unusual and hopefully also amusing ways. Characteristically, several instruments are played at the same time and each video consists of only one camera shot. Episodes are released irregularly on YouTube.
The first video was released on 11 February 2022. Titled Playing IMAGINE on 4 instruments simultaneously, it shows Michael J. Keplinger performing John Lennon’s Imagine on kalimba, kazoo, a tambourine (via a drum pedal), and toy piano/xylophone while singing.
It was followed on 22 July 2022 with Playing COME TOGETHER on rubber band, shoe box & a pen, in which Michael J. Keplinger performs The Beatles’ Come Together on an instrument he built out of a shoe box. Essentially, it is a shoebox with a rubber band wrapped around it, which he then plays like a lap steel guitar, but using a pen for a steel bar. Although this video is the last of the series to date, further entries are planned.
