Honolulu, Baby! was recorded in the summer of 2020, shortly after Stan Laurel’s 130th birthday. Oliver Hardy originally sang the song, ukulele in hand, in Sons of the Desert in 1933. The cover was meant to honor the great T. Marvin Hatley, who provided much of Laurel & Hardy’s movies’ unmistakable charme with his brilliant compostions.
In contrast, the VHS style of the animated video brings a deliberate contrast and new dimension to the work. It was the first new animation project after MJK’s Pick Up Your Cross (and follow me) earlier that year.
