As part of this year’s Nextcomic Festival in Linz—Austria’s leading festival dedicated to comics and graphic arts since 2009—ART:9 presents an exhibition centered on its current series Phantom – Die Klassiker.
ART:9’s exhibition is open 20–28 March 2026 at Foyer 2 on the second floor of the Ursulinenhof, the festival’s central venue.
Focusing on the origins of the iconic comic strip, the exhibition features selected excerpts from ART:9’s Phantom – Die Klassiker publications alongside reproductions of the original newspaper formats in which the Phantom dailies first appeared, as well as an original illustration reproduced at full scale. This approach offers insight into both the historical context and the editorial process behind the series.
As an Austrian comic imprint dedicated to the high-quality reissue of classic comic works, ART:9 contributes to the preservation and appreciation of comic history within the German-speaking world, with editor Michael J. Keplinger shaping both the publication and its presentation within the exhibition.
The exhibition is part of a broader festival program that explores comics in dialogue with illustration, film, literature, and other visual arts, positioning the medium within a contemporary artistic framework.
